What Powerwall 3 does

Powerwall 3 is Tesla's home battery. Each unit stores 13.5 kWh and has a built-in solar inverter. Paired with solar panels, it stores the power you make during the day so you can use it at night, and it can keep your home running during an outage.

Why people add Powerwall

  • Backup power. When the grid goes down, Powerwall can keep your lights, fridge and Wi-Fi on.
  • Time-of-use rates. If your utility charges more in the evening, Powerwall can cover those hours with stored solar power.

I already have Tesla solar. Can I use a referral for a Powerwall?

No. Existing Tesla customers can't use referral links. Check the Tesla app for any loyalty offers instead.

Is there still a federal tax credit for home batteries?

Not for homeowners buying a system. The 30% federal credit (Section 25D) that covered solar and batteries ended after December 31, 2025. Some states and utilities still offer battery incentives.
